Solo Performance Competition
1. Solo competitions are held on each Sunday through August 29th in the Past Tense Cider Mill Pavilion from 1PM to 4PM
2. Each Sunday, two (2) winners will be determined by audience ballot and will have an opportunity to return to the Saturday, September 25th FINALS Competition to earn a Top Three spot and win a $300 1st Prize, $150 2nd Prize, and $50 3rd Prize.
3. There is no limit to how many times you may compete. If you don’t make it in any of the previous Sunday competitions, come on back on the following Sunday and give it another try. Voting will be by the audience so you are urged to bring a great support group.
4. Contestants may select songs from Dee Michaels karaoke song library, provide their own playable audio CD’s, provide their own accompaniment (guitar, portable piano, accordion, violin, etc…), sing acapella, sing Karaoke style (Karaoke screen and music is available), or they can play guitar, piano, kazoo, trumpet, or any musical instrument they desire in the competition. We only ask that it be a family friendly performance.
5. A PA system and microphones will be provided. Do not bring equipment. You will not be allowed to use personal microphones or sound effects.
Band Performance Competition
1. One Band will have a chance to compete every Sunday during the Solo Competition and play up to ten songs during their performance.
2. The Band competition will run through August 29th from 1PM to 4PM each Sunday. An audience vote tabulation will be taken for each performing band.
3. Two bands will be chosen on August 29th to return for the Finals competition on September 26, 2010 by audience vote tabulation.
4. The two finalists chosen to return will perform a two hour live performance each at the annual Past Tense Fall Festival Music and Performance Under the Pavilion Solo Finals on September 26. The winner of the Finals will receive a $250 Cash Prize. The winner will be chosen by audience vote tabulation the day of the performance.
Note: Past Tense Antiques and Country Store, Inc. makes no offer of, or implied contract with any performers or bands in this competition. Contest rules and procedures may be changed or modified at anytime by Past Tense and no one else. All performers must be 18 or older or be accompanied by an adult to perform, and must sign a waiver that excludes any contractual requirements.

More Information about the Contest:
The contest is open to singers (solo or small group of 4 or less) or instrumental talent.
There is no minimum age, but children must be able to sing well to enter the contest.
There is only one contest. There are no different categories, such as youth, female, male, group, etc. Every performer is judged against all the others each Sunday.
We provide a sound system (microphones, jacks for electric instruments, stage monitors, speakers and a CD player) and a sound engineer to play the CD and adjust the sound.
We do not provide musical instruments, music stands or clips, instrument stands, seats, or accessories.
Songs should have family friendly lyrics (no swearing, cussing, or suggestive lyrics). The style of the songs should be: easy listening, country, Gospel, bluegrass, pop, etc.
Singers may perform any songs they like during their performance of up to 15 minutes.
Singers must provide an accompaniment CD (tracks) AND/OR - your own live accompaniment (musicians and their instruments) It is the responsibility of the performer to be sure that their CD is not scratched and will work well for the performance.
If the CD fails to play well, a backup song should be provided for a performance either right away, or later in the program as the situation demands.
Label your accompaniment CD (full name & phone) and anything brought on stage so that it may be clearly identified as yours. Do not take anything from the stage that does not belong to you.
Label your CD (& CD case) with your name and what track to play.
Songs will be performed live in front of the audience.
Winners will be announced at the end of the contest that day. The top two winners will be invited back to the Finals on September 25th at the Annual Fall Festival. to sing for Prize money.
The order of singers shall be determined by the staff of the talent contest.
The decisions of the winners of the talent contest are final and at the discretion of the talent contest staff.
Each song will get its full play. However, talent contest staff has the right to interrupt a song for sound quality, technical difficulty, or any other reason.
Performers must be present at the end of the contest that day to win.
No alcohol or drugs are allowed; no tobacco allowed onstage. Profanity is not allowed. Any performers or musicians who are incapacitated will not be allowed on stage to participate.
Stage clothes should be clean, in good condition, modest and not revealing. This is a performance and clothing should be business-casual to dressy. No message on the clothing or accessories should endorse anything that would be considered offensive to a family friendly audience. If there are doubts, we will ask you to have other clothing available. No tube tops. No mini shirts. Shirt and shoes must be worn. Jeans are permitted.
The singer(s) shall be ready when called to perform.
The singer(s) shall quickly take the stage, and motion when they are ready to begin the song.
To keep the flow of the contest moving, the singer(s) shall enter the stage, perform, and leave the stage in a timely and professional manner and shall not give a commentary, long introduction, naming the performers, etc.
Avoid comments (my favorite song), excuses (I have a cold, my guitar's not acting right), or complaints (I can't sing in the heat). Performers and their crew need to present themselves with professionalism, stage presence and poise.
The song should be memorized or sung in such a way that the one(s) singing should read the lyrics as a backup, at a glance, and not holding a lyric sheet close to the face.
There will not be a rehearsal on stage. Any rehearsal done onsite can be done away from the stage, as long as it does not distract from those performing onstage.
The singers and any accompanying musicians, family, helpers, children and guests, should behave in a courteous manner to the talent contest staff and volunteers, and the audience. Any rudeness, profanity, threats, or unwelcome behavior will give cause to the performer being disqualified for either performing, and/or for winning.
Child care is not provided. Any children must be attended by someone in the performer's company. No children under 10 are to be left unattended. Children are not allowed onstage unless participating in the song.
Photos and videos are allowed, but cannot be sold if the song being performed is not owned by the performer (to prevent copyright violations).
Performers shall allow their photo to be taken for use of promotion in our literature and online, including their name and hometown. Performers have the option to be available to sign autographs for those in the audience.
Flyers, sign-up sheets, etc., cannot be passed through the audience.
Performers and those with them shall be respectful of the other performers in the contest by not causing disturbance or distraction to them or to the talent contest staff and volunteers before, during or after the others' performance.
A liability waiver must be signed to hold harmless Past Tense Antiques and Country Store, Inc. et al from injury, and a release form must be signed to allow Past Tense et al, to use a quote, photo or video of the performer in publications, print and online.
